How It Works (Testosterone Propionate)
Testosterone Propionate works by activating androgen receptors in muscles, bones, and other tissues, or converting into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a stronger form of testosterone. This triggers protein synthesis, muscle growth, red blood cell production, and supports the development of male secondary sexual traits.
Uses
This medication is prescribed for men with low or absent natural testosterone, including primary hypogonadism (testicular failure) and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (pituitary or hypothalamic issues). It is also used in cases of delayed puberty or other testosterone-deficiency conditions.
Who Should Avoid It
Do not use if allergic to testosterone, have prostate or breast cancer, severe liver or kidney disease, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Precautions
Patients with heart, liver, or kidney conditions, hormone-sensitive cancers, psychiatric disorders, or diabetes should be monitored closely. Injection technique must be followed properly to reduce infection risks, and athletes should note its banned status in sports. Regular follow-ups are essential to track hormone levels and overall health.
Drug Interactions
May interact with anticoagulants, corticosteroids, and antidiabetic medications. Always inform your healthcare provider about all medicines and supplements being taken.
Dosage
For testosterone replacement therapy, 25–50 mg is injected intramuscularly every 2–3 days. Dosage may be adjusted based on clinical response and serum testosterone levels. Follow your healthcare provider’s instructions carefully.
