How It Works
Testosterone Cypionate (Cypo® – Testosterone) acts by binding to androgen receptors in muscles, bones, and other tissues, or converting into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a more potent form. This interaction triggers gene expression that supports muscle growth, protein synthesis, red blood cell production, and the development of male secondary sexual characteristics.
Uses
This medication is prescribed for men with low or absent natural testosterone, including cases of primary hypogonadism (testicular failure) and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (pituitary or hypothalamic issues). It can also help with delayed puberty and other testosterone-deficiency conditions.
Who Should Avoid It
Do not use if you are allergic to testosterone, have prostate or breast cancer, severe liver or kidney disease, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Precautions
Patients with cardiovascular issues, liver or kidney problems, or a history of hormone-sensitive cancers should use testosterone under careful supervision. Monitoring for mood changes, blood parameters, and overall health is recommended. Athletes should note its banned status in competitive sports.
Drug Interactions
Testosterone Cypionate may affect anticoagulants, corticosteroids, insulin, oral antidiabetics, and other hormone-related medications. Always inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking.
Dosage
For testosterone replacement, the usual dose is 50–400 mg injected intramuscularly every 2–4 weeks. The exact dosage is tailored to individual needs and serum testosterone levels by a healthcare professional.
